Meeting curiosity with credibility

Made By Us unleashes access to history and civics education for young adults by meeting them where they are with credible, timely content and resources sourced from a nationwide network of cultural institutions.

Our Story

Born in 2018 and launched in 2020 as a collaborative effort of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, Senator John Heinz History Center, National Archives Foundation, Atlanta History Center, HistoryMiami Museum and New-York Historical Society, with leadership from First Americans Museum, Charles Wright Museum of African American History, Conner Prairie and Colonial Williamsburg, Made By Us has grown into a movement of hundreds of participating institutions across the United States, joining forces to share credible, pluralist history and civics information for the generation ready to put it into action.

About Us

Our Approach

who we are

Our Mission

Knowing "how we got here" is the first building block of civic engagement. Once you see yourself in the story of history, you can be informed and empowered to shape the future.

As the U.S. prepares to mark 250 years, younger generations have the most at stake from our future. They are seeking credible context and ways to take action.

Museums and historic sites have vast, multi-perspective expertise to offer - and together we can share a fuller, richer history than any single source. Made By Us harnesses this strength, with audience-first approaches, to connect those ages 18-30 with our past, present and future.
